Landscape for learning is newest campus addition. The newest space at UCCS is neither traditional classroom, student housing nor athletic venue. (More)

Back to the Bluffs offers fun for all. Homecoming this year, Mountain Lion style, includes a new pub, T-shirts and Mark Twain. (More)

Cops and coffee. Campus police officers will treat faculty, staff and students to donuts and coffee from 7:30-9 a.m. Oct. 6 in UC 116 as part of an annual meet and greet event. (More)

Faculty, staff encouraged to learn about upcoming ballot initiatives. UCCS faculty and staff should read their state-issued voter's Blue Book carefully for a fair and honest assessment of the key issues on the November ballot and then cast ballots, Kirsten Castleman, senior director, State Relations, CU System, said Wednesday. School of Public Affairs to host candidate debates. The School of Public Affairs will host a series of debates focused on issues facing Coloradans in the Nov. 2 election. (More)

Faculty work to improve senior mental health care. Integrating mental and physical care into a seamless model is the future of U.S. health care and improving lives of older adults, according to a UCCS professor. (More)

October forum to focus on technology. Jerry Wilson, executive director, Information Technology, will explain the newest tool to expand the university's reach during the October Chancellor's Forum scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 6 in the University Center Theater. (More)

Higher Ground Conference focus on information for disabled. UCCS faculty and staff are eligible for discounted rates to attend the 13^th Annual Accessing Higher Ground Conference Nov. 15-19 in Westminster. (More)

Ethics Initiative to host author. Scholar and author Mary C. Gentile will speak about ethical dilemmas facing business leaders and students in a public address scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in Dwire Hall 204. (More)

Clyde's opens with campus fanfare. The grand opening of Clyde's, the long-awaited new campus pub, kicked off "Back to the Bluffs" Tuesday. The party featured live music, T-shirt giveaways and an appearance by Clyde, a rescued mountain lion who is the official mascot for UCCS. (More)

Kudos

Eve Gruntfest, professor emeritus, was recently appointed to the science advisory board of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She is a research associate with the UCCS Trauma, Health and Hazards Center and directs the Social Science Woven into Meteorology Program at the University of Oklahoma.

Sandy Wurtele, professor, Psychology, was the keynote speaker at the 11^th National Conference on Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation Prevention Aug. 24-26 in New Orleans. She recently published two books on the prevention of childhood sexual abuse, "Out of Harm's Way," published by Parenting Press and "Off Limits" published by Safer Society Press.

Fred Coolidge, professor, Psychology, was featured in the WNYC radio program "Radio Lab," a nationally syndicated show, explaining his theory of hypnic jerks, the scientific term given to the sudden jerk that often accompanies the beginning of the human sleep cycle. (More)
