Veteran – in more ways than one – faculty chosen as interim dean. The chair of the Department of Counseling and Human Services and a retired U.S. Army colonel will be the interim dean of the College of Education. (More)

MBAs say green energy a good return on investment. A group of UCCS MBA students believe current tax credits and rebates can make wind power profitable for the Pikes Peak region. (More)

Higher ed flexibility on governor's desk. Having received final approval from the Colorado House on Monday, the higher education flexibility bill now awaits Gov. Bill Ritter's signature. (More)

Commencement to honor humanitarians, graduates. The CU Board of Regents will present an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to author Greg Mortenson at the Spring 2010 UCCS Commencement, scheduled for 11 a.m. May 21 at the Colorado Springs World Arena. (More)

Sisters in Crime. Members of the Kraemer Family Library staff accepted a $1,000 check this week from Sisters in Crime, an organization devoted to supporting women who write mystery novels. (More)

Unstoppable women. The CU Foundation will honor six women graduating from UCCS with the assistance of a Karen Possehl Women's Endowment Scholarship at the Unstoppable Women Luncheon May 19. The 11:30 a.m. lunch will be in the UCCS Ballroom and will also feature an award to former Colorado Springs Mayor Mary Lou Makepeace as this year's Unstoppable Woman. (More)

TV is theme for Staff Council Luncheon. The UCCS Staff Council Spring Luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 26 in the University Center Ballroom but the first of many door prizes was awarded May 10. (More)

Foundation trustees visit campus. Members of the 75-strong CU Foundation Board of Trustees arrived on campus Thursday for meetings. (More)

CHS director to meet with Croatian leaders. Kurt Johnson, interim director, Center for Homeland Security at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will meet with Croatia's President Ivo Josipovic, May 21 to discuss potential collaboration between the university and the southeast European nation. (More)

Kudos

Officers commended. Mike Bianco, patrol officer, Public Safety, and Larry Darnall, patrol officer, Public Safety, will receive commendations from the Colorado Springs Police Department for their role in apprehending two suspects in an attempted robbery of a local convenience store. (More)

EPIIC honors business planning contest winners. Winners of a Business Revitalization and Innovation Competition sponsored by El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization at UCCS received cash awards Friday morning. (More)

Faculty earn promotions and tenure recommendations. Eleven faculty members will be honored Friday with a reception at the home of Provost Peg Bacon. For academic year 2010-2011, two were promoted to professor and nine were been promoted to associate professor and recommended for the granting of tenure. (More)
