UCCS honors humanitarian author. UCCS will present an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to author Greg Mortensen at the Spring 2010 Commencement, scheduled for 11 a.m. May 21 at the Colorado Springs World Arena. (More)

CU weapons war to continue in courts. A Thursday ruling by the Colorado Court of Appeals extends a statewide concealed carry gun law to CU campuses, effectively superseding a CU Board of Regents policy on the issue. (More)

Facebook users: keep on posting. An Office of the Attorney General opinion about Facebook sent some campus account owners scrambling this week but it was all for naught.(More)

UCCS and Texas A&M Health Science Center join to advance disease treatment. UCCS will work collaboratively with the Texas A&M Health Science Center in the areas of bioenergetics, immunology and cell life, according to a memorandum of understanding between the two schools announced April 12. (More)

New campus-wide extended studies director picked. An experienced leader in the development of non-traditional university programs will become the director of campus-wide extended studies at UCCS. (More)

Campus earns kudos for economic development leadership. The Colorado Springs Regional Economic Development Corporation recognized UCCS with leadership awards at a Wednesday lunch. (More)

25 year club honored; memories shared. They told stories of water towers painted like soup cans, smoke bombs placed atop buildings, and tomes of epic battles for independence as well as providing sage advice to campus newcomers. (More)

Faculty receive ISIS demonstration. The April 9 UCCS Faculty Assembly meeting featured a demonstration of faculty access to the Improved Student Information System as well as discussion of health care concerns, and some positive news from the chancellor. (More)

Photo of the week. The Colorado Springs Undergraduate Research Forum drew a record crowd Saturday to hear John Herrington, class of 1983, and the first Native American astronaut talk about his experiences as a student, a pilot and as an astronaut. (More)

In Memory

Sandy Starczewski, general professional, Human Resources Office, died April 8. She began work at UCCS in March 2007. Memorial services were April 14 in Littleton.(More)

Kudos

Josephine Benavidez, director, Pre-Collegiate Development program, will be honored at the May 22 Hats Off luncheon of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The sorority will honor four local women for their commitments to public service.

Stephanie Hanenberg, director, Student Health Center, was honored April 16 with the University of Colorado Staff Council Service Excellence Award. The award was presented at the All Staff Council Conference in Boulder by Provost Peg Bacon who complemented Hanenberg on her care for students, faculty and staff.
