Announcements

Budget subject for campus forum. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will lead two forums March 30 and 31 to update faculty and staff on the university’s budget. The forums are scheduled for 3 p.m. March 30 in the University Center Theater and 9:30 a.m. March 31 in Columbine Hall 128. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a forum to learn about UCCS budget strategies in advance of an April 2 announcement by the CU System.

Green may be the new gold. Two UCCS students have found their calling thanks to federal stimulus funds and a professor’s resolve to offer courses in the increasingly lucrative field of energy engineering. (More)

Women with high blood pressure sought for research. A UCCS professor needs women more than 21 years old to participate in a research study involving high blood pressure. (More)

Benefit changes explained. Representatives from Payroll and Benefits Services will have a forum from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. April 1 in the University Center theater to explain changes in the university’s health benefit plans and to answer questions. (More)

Faculty: ISIS almost ready. The first stages are over and the Integrated Student Information System is “on the verge of full implementation,” David Moon, associate vice chancellor, Academic Affairs, told Faculty Assembly members at their March 12 meeting. (More)

3OH!3 to headline UCCS concert. Hip hop sensation 3OH!3 will be the headline band for a concert at UCCS April 22. (More)

In Memory

Jane Stanbrough, former professor of English and women’s studies, died March 9 in Denver. She is survived by her partner of 44 years, Alice Cox, and her sister, Jo Stanbrough. A long time English professor, Jane taught at Thomas Jefferson and South High Schools. She was the head of University Student Publications at University of California Systems and also worked at UC Berkeley, UC Davis, the University of Denver, where she was the editor of the English Quarterly Publication, and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs as an American Literature and Women’s Studies professor. Kudos

Carole Schoffstall, dean emerita, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, was named a finalist for regional 2010 Florence Nightingale Academy of Nursing Award. She will compete in statewide award process in May.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Languages and Cultures, was elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts Feb. 26 in London. The Royal Society of Arts encourages public discourse and critical debate by providing platforms to share new ideas on social progress. He was also recently elected to a second term as executive council member of the Modern Austrian Literature and Culture Association.

Who’s New

UCCS welcomed three new members to the campus community in March. They are:

  • Kenneth Derry, grounds and nursery, Facilities Services, effective March 1.
  • Jose Rivera, equipment operator, Public Safety, effective March 1.
  • Charles Kuehler, research assistant, Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education, effective March 1.
