Sweet joins campus ranks

Longtime University of Colorado general counsel Charles “Charlie” Sweet will continue to assist the university in a new role.

Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak announced that Sweet will begin work for UCCS as executive director of strategic planning and initiatives. The 75 percent appointment is an extension of work Sweet conducted for UCCS for the past several months with the law firm of Holme Roberts and Owen. Funding for his previous and future work will come from a private organization donation to the university.

In his role, Sweet will be responsible for helping guide new initiatives at UCCS including developing partnerships and coordinating the efforts of the Southern Colorado Higher Education Consortium, a group of two- and four-year colleges located throughout the region. He will also be responsible for the implementation of a campus-wide compliance program. He will work in the community with Operation 6035, Colorado Springs’ economic development initiative.

Sweet can be reached at 255-3801 or csweet@uccs.edu.

Sweet served CU for almost 20 years, including 13 years as vice president and university counsel, before retiring in 2007. Prior to joining CU, he served as general counsel of Old Dominion University.
