Alum donates $1 million to name new event center. The new 1,250-seat UCCS event center will bear the name of a family of eight UCCS alums. (More)

Business awarded $1.25 million ethics grant. The College of Business was awarded a $1.25 million grant this week to help further instill a high standard of ethics in students attending the university. (More)

UCCS tied to Winter Olympics. Watching the competitions on TV and cheering for a favorite athlete is the closest most people get to the Olympic games. Nanna Meyer, assistant professor, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, isn't most people. (More)

CU asks employees to verify benefit eligibility. At home addresses, UCCS faculty and staff should receive letters this week from the CU System asking for verification of dependents receiving benefits such as health insurance from the university. (More)

UCCS launches effort to build science teachers. UCCS will join other leading universities working to increase the number of math and science teachers in the U.S. by offering the nationally regarded UTeach program this year. (More)

State Attorney General to teach UCCS course. Colorado’s top law enforcement officer, Attorney General John Suthers, will teach a joint undergraduate and graduate course in criminal justice at UCCS for the spring semester. (More)

Homeland Security offers certificates. The Center for Homeland Security, part of the National Institute of Science, Space and Security Centers, will offer two new certificates in security intelligence and disaster public health this month. (More)

UCCS brings Disney Institute to Colorado Springs. UCCS will bring Disney Institute’s traveling professional development program, Disney’s Approach to Business Excellence, to campus on March 23. (More)

Directories arrive, 262 era officially ends. Printed telephone directories arrived in campus mail this week. The Telecommunications Department also will remove intercept messages for callers dialing the former UCCS telephone prefix, “262.” Faculty and staff should remove notices of the prefix change from e-mail and other communication. Charles “Chip” Benight, professor, Psychology, was named “New Inventor of the Year, UCCS” by the CU Technology Transfer Office during a Wednesday banquet and ceremony. (More)

Cindy Corwin, director, Human Resources, recently received the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from the Society of Human Resource Management. The certification required passage of rigorous exams in human resources practices, polices and principles.

Advancement earns awards.
The UCCS University Advancement office received two awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education during the CASE District VI conference Jan. 10 - 13 in St. Louis. (More)
