First H1N1 clinic draws orderly crowd

More than 580 members of the campus community, mostly students, received vaccinations to prevent the H1N1 flu Wednesday.

As a news crew from KRDO watched, Student Health Center staff and dozens of volunteers asked questions about medical history before plunging hypodermic needles into arms. Lines that had formed before the clinic’s 9 a.m. opening quickly disappeared and the clinic moved from serving only students with valid identification to accepting faculty and staff.

“Things went really smoothly today,” Hanenberg said. “I want to thank everyone who volunteered and made this a success – student nurses from Beth-El who actually did the injections and many others who helped keep things organized.”

Earlier this fall, Student Health Center staff immunized students living in university housing bringing the total number of vaccinations to 800.

Another clinic is likely, Hanenberg said, and will be announced by campus e-mail.
