Center shares in $1 million math improvement grant. The Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education based at UCCS will share in a $1 million grant to provide professional development for secondary school math teachers in the Eagle County School District. (More)

Bike share program to begin next week. The twelve black and white Specialized 24-speed mountain bikes at the Campus Recreation Center are new and shiny. But organizers of a new UCCS Bike Share program hope they won’t stay squeaky clean for long. (More)

“Reach Higher” captures UCCS student goals. A new UCCS promotional campaign is hitting the airwaves, local newspapers and the hands of prospective students. The “Reach Higher” campaign is being used as part of a coordinated effort with the Office of Admissions and Records. (More)

Santa needs helpers. The annual UCCS Holiday Service Project is scheduled from Nov. 11-Dec. 9, 2009. The Holiday Service Project Committee is accepting nominations for families to help. Contact Sheryl Botts, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, sbotts@uccs.edu, for more information.

Eat, drink, and give blood. The annual UCCS Halloween Blood Drive is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28-29 in UC 116. All blood types are needed. Donors are urged to drink water and eat before donating. Walk-ins and appointments accepted; allow at least one hour to donate. November forum to focus on enrollment. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will be joined by David Moon, senior associate vice chancellor, Academic Affairs, and other members of a strategic enrollment management team at open campus forum scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 6 in the University Center Theater. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Staff can play critical role in student retention. The service a staff member provides for a UCCS student or a potential UCCS student may be the difference in keeping that student here. (More)

Coleman Institute conference. Noted American economist James K. Galbraith, will be the distinguished keynote speaker at The Coleman Institute for Cognitive Disabilities’ ninth annual conference on cognitive disability and technology Nov. 5 at the Westin Westminster Hotel. (More)

John-Thomas Martinez, executive assistant, Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Enrollment Management, effective Oct. 26. A 2007 UCCS alum, he was previously employed by Colorado Springs Utilities.
