Professor among distinguished. An academic committee recently nominated three University of Colorado professors for the distinguished professor title, the highest honor CU bestows on its faculty members. (More)

Technology key for student retention. Student recruiters attended the Oct. 9 Faculty Assembly meeting to show how software used in the recruiting process can affect retention. (More)

WarnerClimate change brings senate powerhouse to campus.
It was a wistful John Warner, one of the nation’s foremost politicians and Washington pugilists, who visited UCCS Tuesday to talk about climate change and the importance of making it a national priority. (More)

One millionth passenger gets surprise. The Transportation Services division of the Department of Public Safety recognized its 1 millionth shuttle bus passenger Tuesday. (More)

Colorado Combined Campaign begins. A $26,000 campus-wide campaign to help the region’s less fortunate began Tuesday and will continue through Nov. 17. Packets will arrive in campus mail. Questions? Contact Tina Collins, 255-3258, tcollins@uccs.edu or Iryse Naro, 255-3210, inaro@uccs.edu

Disability Awareness. UCCS will host an awareness fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 22 in the University Center Gym. Faculty and staff can participate in wheelchair basketball and register for prizes. At 5 p.m., in the Upper Lodge, athlete John Register will speak on “Hurdling Adversity, Celebrating Disability and Diversity.” 

Preparing to retire. Whether five months or five (or more) years from retirement, Payroll & Benefit Services is encouraging participation in its annual Preparing to Retire program which officially begins Monday. See a calendar of events PDF.

Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera and U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Graves thanked UCCS student Loren Buttenweiser and supervising faculty for maps of “hard to count” census tracts Thursday at a meeting at the Broadmoor Hotel. (More)
