El Pomar professors to address University Club

University Club members will hear from three faculty members this fall about improving innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity in the workplace.

On Oct. 8, Terry Boult, El Pomar Professor of Innovation and Security, and Michael Larson, El Pomar Professor of Engineering and Innovation, will lead a noon hour discussion with club members, highlighting their own activities and encouraging local business leaders to make innovation part of their organizations. On Nov. 12, club members will hear from Tom Duening, El Pomar Professor for Business and Entrepreneurship , and tour the Science & Engineering Building.

“University Club members indicated they wanted a more hands-on approach to improving their skills,” Jennifer Hane, director, University Events and Alumni Relations, said. “As a result, we’ve restructured the programming so faculty and club members have more opportunities to interact. I’m confident Professors Boult, Larson and Duening will provide both inspiration and example.”

Following a state of the university address by Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak in January, University Club will return to topics important to local business leaders and the university alike. On March 11, Sarah Qualls, Kraemer Family Distinguished Professor of Aging, will lead a discussion about aging in the context of the corporate world. In April, club members will tour the Palisades at Broadmoor Park, a senior housing development that works cooperatively with UCCS.

The University Club exists to enhance the relationship between UCCS and the business community. Members are committed to using the club’s financial resources for student scholarships, teacher awards, and campus and community outreach efforts. The University Club actively encourages members to participate in campus functions and to help foster community support.

Founded as the UCCS Executives Club in 1982 and given official status by UCCS, the club is administered through the Office of University Advancement. In 1997 the name of the organization was changed to the University Club.
