Members and staff from the Colorado Legislature's Capital Development Committee met with campus and system officials and also toured the campus on Wednesday, Sept. 23, for a briefing about the growth and development of the campus.
Charged with prioritizing and approving state-funded capital building requests that have no state funding, such as the UCCS Events Center or the Recreation Center, the committee was impressed with UCCS' progress. The committee also complimented the campus on its efforts to creatively solve capital needs given student growth.
The group, consisting of Representative Jim Riesberg (D-Greeley), Representative Liane "Buffie" McFadyen (D-Pueblo West), and two legislative staff members, toured the Kraemer Family Library, Science & Engineering Building, Events Center and the Science Building classrooms and renovation areas before boarding a UCCS shuttle to tour of the campus.
Areas visited included: east campus, University Hall and the proposed site of the campus' top priority once funding returns, an academic building labeled South Hall. This new classroom and office building would be built on university-owned land west of University Hall along Regent Circle.
Committee members also saw the proposed site, near Four Diamonds Sports Complex, of the campus' second capital priority, a visual and performing arts center and were briefed on the North Nevada Urban Renewal project.
