Announcements

MFS LogoUCCS named a military friendly school. G.I. Jobs magazine named UCCS to its 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools, an honor given to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools for their work with veterans. (More)

Colorado Renewable Energy Society lauds Science & Engineering. The CRES cited the newest UCCS building as a winner of its Renewable Energy and Sustainable Design in Buildings Award for 2009 in the institutional building category. (More)

Forums on tap. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a forum where updates in the university’s strategic plan and budget are scheduled for discussion. Time, date and locations of the remaining forums are:

  • 8 a.m. Sept. 10 Dwire Hall 121
  • 3 p.m. Sept. 10 Engineering 103

No football, no problem.
Students March to Tailgate Party gallery
An enthusiastic group of UCCS students decided that it wasn’t necessary to have a football team to have a tailgate party. Led by student Ben Jourdan, more than 400 UCCS students marched down Austin Bluffs to the Aug. 28 men’s soccer game against Rockhurst College. The students enjoyed pizza and energy drinks before the game, won by Rockhurst 1-0. See photos of the event here.

Hey buddy, can you spare a pencil? Donation boxes for a school supply drive sponsored by Staff Council are located throughout campus until Sept. 15. New supplies, ranging from the ever-popular #2 pencils to tissues and glue sticks are sought. The items will be donated to needy elementary school children. Questions? Staff breakfast ushers in fall semester. About 200 faculty, staff and students attended the 37th Annual Fall Staff Breakfast on the University Center upper plaza Sept. 3. See pictures of the event and a list of speakers here.

University Club uncorks. Led by Bob Larkin, professor, Geography and Environmental Studies and Mike Larkin, senior instructor, Geography and Environmental Studies, members of the University Club will participate in a wine tasting event beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Lodge. Alumni on the road. As part of efforts to better connect with UCCS alumni, the Alumni and Friends Association is meeting at area restaurants. At 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22, the association will host an event at the Shamrock Brewing Company in Pueblo. In October, a career session is scheduled as well as an event at a Denver restaurant. Flaunt: Evolution. An artistic event to showcase works whose ideological themes are life, growth, and sustainability is planned for 7- 11 p.m. Sept. 12 beneath the Colorado Avenue bridge. The Gallery of Contemporary Art and Theaterworks are sponsors. (More)

9/11 to be remembered. Plans are underway for events commemorating Sept. 11, 2001. Specifics will be announced next week.

Who’s New

New instructors join faculty ranks. More than 30 new faculty members from across the nation and around the world joined UCCS this fall, most of them as instructors. Meet the newest members of the UCCS community. (More)

UCCS hires conference coordinator. A sales professional with more than eight years experience in hotel event management will be the first conference coordinator at UCCS. (More)
