Chancellor announces budget and organizational changes. In a memo to faculty and staff sent today, Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak outlined several changes and addressed State of Colorado budget challenges. See the memo.

West lawn in place. Facilities services landscaping crews got about 50 pairs of helping hands July 11 in creating the first-ever west lawn of UCCS. (More)

ACE fellow joins campus. A career Air Force officer and professor of English at the U.S. Air Force Academy will spend the next year at UCCS as an American Council on Education fellow. (More)

First fall forum scheduled. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will begin the first scheduled forum of the fall semester at 9 a.m. Sept. 1 in University Hall 132. The forum will be repeated at 3 p.m. Sept. 2 in Science 192, 10:30 a.m. Sept. 3 in University Center Theater, 2 p.m. Sept. 9 in Columbine 114, 8 a.m. Sept. 10 in Dwire Hall 121 and 3 p.m. Sept. 10 in Engineering 103. Updates on changes to the university’s strategic plan and budget are planned.

Recession forces reexamination of campus strategic plan. With unemployment rates increasing and the housing market slumping, state tax revenues will decline and place great strains on the University of Colorado, Dale DeBoer, associate professor, Economics, and chair of the University Budget Advisory Committee said recently. Science and Engineering dedication. If you thought Cinderella's preparations for the royal ball were elaborate, look at plans to inaugurate the Science and Engineering Building at UCCS. (More)

$1.5 million grant to improve student math skills. A successful program that teaches math to non-English speakers will be modified to teach youngsters with disabilities the math skills considered vital for success in the 21st century. (More)

Faculty reminisces as nation marks 40th anniversary of lunar landing. David Schmidt admits to wearing horn-rimmed spectacles and looking a lot like the men depicted as 1960s NASA workers in the film “Apollo 13.” (More)

Prestigious scholarship awarded to business student. The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund recently awarded a scholarship valued at $18,000 to an undergraduate UCCS student. (More)

Gallery to present Displacement. The Gallery of Contemporary Art is will present Displacement: Cinema Out of Site as its first project under a new line of programming, AWOL: Art Without Limits. (More)

Softball adds former player as assistant coach. Becki Pepper joins the Mountain Lions staff for the 2009-10 season. She brings with her a strong resume as both a player and coach. (More)

Center for Homeland Security associate director picked. A lawyer who served as the senior legal advisor to the commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command is the new associate director of the Center for Homeland Security. (More)

Silver and Gold Record reporter joins Advancement. Ron Fitz, formerly of the Silver and Gold Record, joined University Advancement as a part-time staff writer effective July 1. He will contribute to Communique, assist with the editing of the UCCS Catalog, and advise the student newspaper, The Scribe.

Ombuds Office moves. The Ombuds Office is now located in Cragmor Hall 003. Its phone number is 255-4324.

A memorial service for David Mueller, Colorado Springs, a sophomore business student, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday in the University Gym. See the statement issued by Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak and Athletic Director Steve Kirkham. (More)
