Announcements

Guide cites two UCCS graduate programs as national leaders. Two graduate-level programs at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs are among the nation’s best, according to the editors of U.S. News and World Report. (More)

College of Business honors local entrepreneur. An entrepreneur who studied at UCCS when the campus was located in a fraternity house on the Colorado College campus was honored this week for his lifetime contributions to business in the community. (More)

Benson on budget. CU President Bruce Benson shed light on the evolving 2009-2010 CU budget and the actions of the General Assembly in a message to faculty and staff this week. See his message here.

Budget forums scheduled. Forums to review budget plans for 2009-2010 are scheduled throughout early May. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend one of the forums. The forum times and locations are:

  • 3 p.m. May 4, Columbine 317,
  • 8 a.m. May 5, Engineering 103,
  • 2 p.m. May 5, University Hall 109,
  • 9 a.m. May 6, Dwire Hall 204 and
  • 3:30 p.m. May 7, Science 192.

An all-campus forum is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 12 in the University Center Theater

Paul HArveyBattle over religion, politics nothing new says professor. The connection between religion and politics in the United States is not new but has evolved dramatically over the past 200 years, Paul Harvey, professor, History, told the members of the University Club this week. Steve KirkhamAD does double duty. UCCS Athletic Director Stephen Kirkham will assume duties as the women’s basketball coach for the 2009-10 season, a move that will stretch the department’s budget. (More)

Annual award ceremony scheduled. The annual campus award ceremony recognizing winners of campus-wide and CU System award recipients is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. May 5 in the Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater at University Hall. The award recipients will be profiled in a future edition of Communique.

CyranoExtraordinary Nose. The most famous nose in dramatic history will be revealed in all its prodigious glory when Theaterworks presents Cyrano de Bergerac, April 23-May 17 in the Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater at UCCS. (Press Release PDF)

Sherry Morreale, assistant professor, Communication, received the 2009 Award for Communication Excellence from the Rocky Mountain Communication Association April 17.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts will receive the 2009 President’s Diversity Award at a May 5 reception at the Office of the President.

Terry Schwartz, associate dean, School of Public Affairs, received a quarterly Do the Right Thing Award from the Office of the University Controller and the Vice President for Budget and Finance for her role in renegotiating a contract for on-line courses that reduced expenses and increased revenues.

Jane King, accountant, Resource Management, Karen Brown, assistant to the dean, Education, Rose Johnson, program assistant, English Department, Beverly Kiselich, program assistant, Visual and Peforming Arts Department, Linda Kocourek, assistant to the dean, Business, and Sherry McDonnell, accounting technician, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, received a quarterly Do the Right Thing team award from the Office of the University Controller and the Vice President for Budget and Finance for their roles in testing a new expense system.
