Statement by Pam Shockley-Zalabak, chancellor,
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
I am cancelling a planned recall election for the position of student body president David Williams.
My action follows Mr. Williams’ formal appeal asking that I review the petitions signed by students and the process used to initiate the recall.
In my review, I found the petitions and the signatures on the petitions to be valid. However, the process used for the recall was not ratified by the branches of student government, a requirement of the Student Government Association Constitution.
For this reason, I am cancelling the recall election.
The Student Government Association remains a free-standing student organization. The administration’s role is to ensure that organizations follow university rules and policies as well as any rules established by the organization itself.
We will continue to work in this rule and to ensure that disputes among adult learners on the campus are handled fairly and within established guidelines.
