Unstoppable women to be honored

Some of the region’s most amazing women will be honored April 17 as part of the Karen Possehl Women’s Endowment Scholarship Luncheon to benefit women students at UCCS.

The 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. event at the Doubletree Hotel, 1775 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd., will feature an award to Colorado Springs’ most unstoppable woman and recognition of seven non-traditional women scholars who plan to graduate from UCCS this spring.

“As a surprise, we will honor an outstanding woman leader from Colorado Springs,” Jaime McMullen Garcia, director of development, CU Foundation, said. “We will also celebrate the achievements of those who have overcome hardship on their path to a college degree.”

To attend, individual tickets are $50. Tables that seat 10 are available for $500. Proceeds will benefit the KPWE Scholarship Program. For reservations or additional information, call 536-4480 before April 10.

The Karen Possehl Women's Endowment provides opportunities for talented and deserving women to attend UCCS. In 1994, faculty and staff, in partnership with the Colorado Springs community, began raising funds for an endowment to provide women with financial assistance for college. Struck by its importance, Karen and James Possehl made a generous gift in 1998 that expanded the endowment into a comprehensive scholarship program.

The luncheon is underwritten by USAA and Ent Federal Credit Union.
