Presidential teaching. Three University of Colorado faculty members, one from Denver and two from Colorado Springs, are President’s Teaching Scholars for 2009. This year’s honorees are Lonnie Johnson, chair, Periodontics, CU Denver School of Dental Medicine, Andrea O’Reilly Herrera, professor, Women’s and Ethnic Studies, and Paul Harvey, professor, History. Celebrating green with gold. The Campus Recreation Center is unique among buildings in Colorado and “one in a million,” a representative of the U.S. Green Building Council said Tuesday at celebration ceremonies for the first Leadership in Energy Efficient Design building at UCCS. (More)

Stimulate UCCS. Federal relations, including what the federal stimulus package means for Colorado and for UCCS will be the subject of a special forum scheduled for 2 p.m. April 10 in the University Center Theater. Representatives of the CU System’s federal relations team will make a brief presentation and answer questions. The forum will immediately follow the Faculty Assembly meeting. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.

Chancellor forum. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will provide a campus update on issues affecting the campus, including the state budget, at a forum scheduled for 2:30 p.m. April 6 in the University Center theater. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Unstoppable women to be honored. Some of the region’s most amazing women will be honored April 17 as part of the Karen Possehl Women’s Endowment Scholarship Luncheon to benefit women students at UCCS. (More)

Hold the date. Multiple budget update forums are scheduled throughout the campus in early May. The forums are scheduled for 3 p.m. May 4 in Columbine 317, 8 a.m. May 5 in Engineering 103, 2 p.m. May 5 in University Hall 109, 9 a.m. May 6 in Dwire Hall 204, 3:30 p.m. May 7 in Science 192. An all-campus forum is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. May 7.

Issues only debate. The Center for the Study of Government and the Individual will host a debate on the four Colorado Springs ballot issues facing local voters in this year’s mail-in election. The debate is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. March 23 in the Carnegie Reading Room of the Penrose Library, 20 North Cascade Ave.

Health fair, blood drive, scheduled. A health fair open to all faculty, staff and students and featuring free health screening (bone density, vision, hearing, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and spine) is planned for 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 7 in the University Center Gym. A variety of other health-related information will also be available and prizes awarded. Memorial Hospital will also conduct a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kudos

Following the implementation of the Paw Prints pay-for-printing system in UCCS computer laboratories, printing decreased from 1.44 million pages in fall 2007 to 445,000 pages in fall 2008, a 70 percent reduction.

La Vonne Neal, dean, College of Education, was the keynote speaker at “Educating a Rainbow of Children” forum at Aurora Central High School. (More)
