In celebration of Women’s History Month, a film about pioneer environmentalist Rachel Carson will be shown a 5:30 p.m. March 5 at the Upper Lodge.
A panel discussion about local green initiatives will follow, according to event organizers.
“A Sense of Wonder,” tells the story of Rachel Carson’s love of the natural world and her fight to defend it. A marine biologist, Carson detailed problems caused by synthetic pesticides in the 1960s. Her work led to bans on chemicals such as DDT and sparked a grassroots environmental movement. Director Kaiulani Lee presents Carson in a documentary style in the final year of her life at her home on the Maine coast.
“We are honored to bring this story of an extraordinary woman to UCCS and to Colorado Springs,” Abby Ferber, professor, Women’s and Ethnic Studies, said. “This event is made possible by the Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion at UCCS and the Colorado Springs Diversity Forum.”
The event is free. Visitors may park in visitor parking. For those needing special parking arrangements, contact Daryl Miller, program assistant, dmiller4@uccs.edu, or 255-4764. RSVPs should be sent to info@cospringsdiversityforum.org
