In Regards to the National Economic Stimulus Package

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs

The university is conducting a thorough analysis of the economic stimulus bill to determine its likely impact.

An initial reaction is that we believe the bill will assist students in two key areas.
Jobs.  Approximately 85 percent of UCCS students work in addition to attending school. The creation of additional jobs will allow students to continue to meet their individual goals.

Assistance for education funding. We believe a tax credit for education, as well as increases in the amount of Pell Grants and work-study programs, will assist low- and moderate-income Coloradoans to achieve their goal of a college education. In recent years, about  1,500 UCCS students received Pell Grants.

The university will continue to examine areas such as renewable energy where we believe there may be opportunities for the transfer of ideas developed at the university to the marketplace and in support of national goals.
