Campus speaks, University Relations listens

The results are in. Communiqué is helpful and informative.

According to survey results compiled by the Office of Institutional Research, 87 percent of respondents read Communiqué regularly and 84 percent consider it useful. Communiqué also ranked as the number one information source on campus for faculty and staff.

While most appreciate Communiqué, it isn’t perfect. Respondents felt there are key areas for improvement. The following list outlines readers concerns and the remedies.

• Earlier distribution time. While readers enjoy receiving Communiqué on Friday, they want it in the morning. Moving forward, distribution time is set for Friday morning.
  
  
• Information overload. Many readers suffer from information overload stemming from repetitive email announcements from the faculty and staff lists. To curb this, all staff and faculty are encouraged to submit items to Communiqué for announcement. This will reduce emails to overflowing in-boxes. The University Relations office will also continue to focus on making announcements and stories clear and concise.
  
  
• Confusion about submitting story ideas and articles. More than half of readers didn’t know how to submit articles or story ideas to Communiqué. Future Communiqués will clearly highlight the process in a prominent location.

• Unusual department news
• Event announcementsIf you’re not sure, go ahead and submit it. The worst that can happen is it doesn’t make the cut.
