constructionEvent Center pieces on way. As soon as the first week of March, 12 foot by 33 foot precast concrete panels will arrive at UCCS to begin forming walls for the Event Center. According to Facilities Services, the walls will be poured at a location in Colorado Springs, brought by truck to campus and hoisted into place by cranes. The building will go together “Lego style” and quickly take shape, Carolyn Fox, university architect, said.

Beth-El faculty, students to operate downtown clinic. Nursing faculty and students at UCCS will operate a health clinic for City of Colorado Springs employees with the goal of treating patients with illness, improving wellness and lowering health insurance claims. (Read more)

Conference to mark Entrepreneurship Week. UCCS and the El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization will conduct a one-day biomedical technology entrepreneurship workshop Feb. 27 as part of Entrepreneurship Week. (Read more)

Campus speaks, University Relations listens. The results are in. Communiqué is helpful and informative. According to survey results compiled by the Office of Institutional Research, 87 percent of respondents read Communiqué regularly and 84 percent consider it useful. Communiqué also ranked as the number one information source on campus for faculty and staff. (Read more)

CU successful in transferring technology. CU researchers perform in the top 10 percent of all universities and the university is tied for seventh place in the number of start-up companies created, according to the Association of University Technology Managers. (Read more)

Open house. The Procurement Service Center will have an open house from 9:30 to 11:30 March 3 in UC 303 to answer questions about PSC operations. To attend, register here.

Who’s New

  • Manuel Rupe, associate university counsel, effective March 1. Rupe has worked with the Office of the University Counsel since 2006 and currently represents the University of Colorado Denver.
  • Samantha Winter, grounds and nursery, Facilities Services, effective Feb. 16.
  • Karen Norris, program assistant, Chancellor’s Office, effective Feb. 1.

Kudos

  • Venkat Reddy, dean, College of Business, was recently selected as a member of the 2009 Colorado Springs Leadership Institute class. He is one of 18 business and community leaders selected for the April 13-17 class at the Center for Creative Leadership.
