Sending mail to UCCS will soon no longer have the feel of a shady operation that’s constantly on the move.
Instead of the venerable “P.O. Box 7150,” mailers can send directly to the campus street address, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO, 80918, according to Larry Lawrence, administrative assistant, Mail and Shipping.
Lawrence recently proposed eliminating the campus post office box, saving the cost of the box rental and staff time devoted to retrieving it. Over the next two years, the postal box will be eliminated as the university goes to a single address with sorting handled by Mail and Shipping Services.
“An addressing issue has arisen,” Lawrence, a former U.S. Postal Service worker, said. “Frequently, mail is mis-addressed with the dual addresses the university maintains. This can cause delays in mail delivery. With one address, we eliminate this problem as well as unnecessary expenses.”
Lawrence recommends campus departments use the following address format:
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
Department Name and individual name
1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway
Colorado Springs, CO 80918
Lawrence also recently suggested simplifying the labeling of inter-campus mail. The recipient’s name and department name, as well as a return address, are all that is necessary for campus mail to be delivered. Lawrence has asked that room numbers, acronyms and abbreviations be eliminated.
“Campus box addresses such as MH1 or ADM1 were developed by the CU Procurement Services Center to identify purchases,” Lawrence said. “But they were not used by the mailroom for inter-campus mail delivery. They just aren’t necessary.”
