Business owner, alum contributes to engineering scholarships

The president of Braxton Technologies, a software engineering and design firm, will donate $50,000 to support student scholarships for engineering students at UCCS.

Kevin O’Neil, president, Braxton Technologies, a Colorado Springs-based manufacturer of software used in satellite and weapons controls, pledged to support ten $5,000 scholarships for qualified engineering students beginning in fall 2009. The scholarships are for Colorado Springs- area high school graduates.

“We are deeply appreciative of Kevin O’Neil’s support of the future generation of engineers and leaders,” R. “Dan” Dandapani, dean, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, said. “This scholarship will help students achieve their dreams of designing solutions to challenges we face now and will face in the future, the college will partner with Mr. O’Neil to spread the importance of engineering education to our community.”

O’Neil purchased Braxton Technologies in 2008 following a successful career in residential real estate, and business acquisition and investing. He is a 1990 UCCS graduate, having earned a degree in communication.

“I feel we all have a duty to build our community with the means we have available to us. Giving personal time to speak at the area schools to motivate our kids into local higher education and degrees from those institutions, will truly make our community stronger in the years to come.”

O’Neil’s two children, Jake and Lindy, also attend the university and are freshmen.

The scholarship will be administered by the CU Foundation, a privately governed nonprofit corporation founded in 1967 whose mission is to support the University of Colorado. Today, the Foundation manages an endowment that exceeds $430 million and has total assets of more than $717 million.
