Pyszczynski named distinguished professor. The University of Colorado Board of Regents Thursday honored four CU faculty members with the distinguished professor title to recognize their outstanding contributions to their respective academic disciplines.The board honored Thomas A. Pyszczynski from UCCS and Spero Manson, Robert Murphy and Paul Teske from the University of Colorado Denver. (Read more)

Grant leads geography education revamp. The U.S. Electoral College, soccer, and water supplies don’t seem to have much in common. But two UCCS geography faculty members hope to connect such disparate topics with elementary, middle, and high school students, en route to improving student learning about the world that surrounds them. Funds, present and future, focus of December forum. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will provide an update on state funding projections at forum scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Dec. 5 in the University Center Theater. She will be joined by members of the CU Legislative Relations staff who will provide an overview of CU’s lobbying efforts.

Efficiency, effectiveness focus of task force, forum. Campus organizers for the Colorado Combined Campaign announced this week that Read more than $23,224 was raised to support non-profit organizations in the community, surpoassing the goal of $21,368. Ten UCCS faculty members were recognized by alumni as favorite faculty and were highlighted during a Nov. 5 forum on student retention. Those recognized were: Michael Hackman, professor, Communication; Kate Lane, instructor, Sociology; Sam Milazzo, professor, Physics; Paul Miller, professor, Business; Barbara Swaby, professor, Education; Tom Napierkowski, professor, English; Sheri Trumpfheller, instructor, Business; Pat Walker, instructor, Sociology; Kee Warner, professor, Sociology; Linda Weaver, instructor, Nursing.

UCCS will host the regional business meeting of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls in February. Known as the “No Frills” conference, a team of UCCS students presented a written bid at a conference and were selected as conference hosts. The students are advised by Molly Kinne, assistant director, Residence Life.
