Get ready for 255

As reported in the Aug. 29 edition of Communiqué, UCCS has outgrown its 262 telephone prefix. As a result, UCCS is beginning its transition away from “262” toward “255.” On-campus dialing will not change, as all four-digit department numbers will remain the same. The official change will take place on Jan.1, 2009, there are small steps each UCCS employee can begin to do so the transition goes smoothly.

1. Alert callers now
   
   Add a notice to your current voice mail message. For example, include a statement like the following to your message: “Please note after Jan. 1, 2009, my telephone number will change to 255-YOUR LAST FOUR DIGITS HERE.”
   
   
2. Alert email contacts
   
   Add a notice to your current email signature. For example, include a statement such as the following: “Please be aware my telephone number will change to 255-YOUR LAST FOUR DIGITS HERE after Jan.1, 2009.”
   
   Send an email notice to those in your current email address book informing them of the change.
   
   
3. Place paper orders now
   
   Begin to place orders for new paper supplies. Think of all the items you may need such as letter head, business cards, notes cards, etc.
   
   
4. Consider small runs of paper supplies
   
   If you must order paper materials that will be used between now and Jan.1, print small quantities of those materials. Additionally you could also use the UCCS 800 number (1-800-990-8227) with reference to your four digit extension on those materials incase you may have some left to use after Jan. 1.
   
   
5. Don’t forget about your website
   
   Begin to think through what phone numbers will need changed on your current web site. And, add a notice to your web site that your number will soon change.
   
   
6. Spread the word in person
   
   When talking to your regular contacts, be sure to tell them about the change. Shout it from the rooftops.
