Chancellor encourages civility, supportive community. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak encouraged campus community members this week to be vigilant in maintaining a campus climate of civil discourse and respect for others. See her letter to the campus, (Read more)

Get ready for 255. As reported in the Aug. 29 edition of Communiqué, UCCS has outgrown its 262 telephone prefix.  As a result, UCCS is beginning its transition away from “262” toward “255.”  Please note, on-campus dialing will not change, as all four-digit department numbers will remain the same. The official change will take place on Jan.1, 2009, there are small steps each UCCS employee can begin to do so the transition goes smoothly.  (Read more)

Benson seeks support. CU President Bruce Benson encouraged members of the University Club to spread the word of the importance of higher education to individuals and to the state’s economic future during a lunchtime address today. Earlier, Benson participated in a panel discussion of the Southern Colorado Economic Forum.

I scream, you scream. Instead of handing out tickets, Public Safety Department members handed out ice cream bars to students and other campus visitors Friday. The goodwill effort, an experiment to improve campus morale, caught passersby at the University Center by surprise when they realized the ice cream was really free, no strings – or parking tickets – attached. Events Center digs in. More fences, dirt and machinery will fill the space between Dwire Hall and the University Center as Event Center construction moves into high gear. A covered walkway will be built as fencing is extended and a drilling rig will be in place Monday. See the plans at www.uccs.edu/eventscenter.

Volunteers – and blood – sought. To volunteer to help with the annual campus Halloween Blood Drive, contact Brad Bailey, accountant, Resource Management, bbailey3@uccs.edu. But Bailey promises no needles are necessary. Memorial Hospital will handle the details.

Not just perception but reality: UCCS a safe campus. The 2008 Campus Safety and Security Report was recently published by the Department of Public Safety. This is one report where zeros in most categories is considered a positive. See the report at //www.uccs.edu/~pusafety/safety/index.shtml

October Chancellor’s Forum date set. The October Chancellor’s Forum is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 30, in the University Center Theatre. Martin Wood, chief operating officer, University Advancement, along with University Advancement staff, will provide an overview about the University Advancement department and how it can be a resource as well as University marketing and branding updates.  The group will also unveil a new website, tools and resources that will soon be available.

Disaster recovery website launched. A new free tool to help disaster survivors take charge of their own recovery will be available to Weld County residents thanks to a partnership of local and regional behavioral health experts. Researchers at the UCCS Trauma, Health, & Hazards Center and partner company BlueSun, Inc. developed Journey to Disaster Recovery, an interactive website that empowers people to take charge of their recovery following a traumatic event like a natural disaster.
