Up, but how much? More faces -- and cars -- are on campus this fall but knowing exactly how many more will have to wait until Monday. Over the weekend, the Office of Enrollment Services will complete census date enrollment data showing how many students are enrolled at UCCS and how many courses they are taking.

Open, at last. The Austin Bluffs bridge over Union Boulevard opened this week, foretelling the end of nearly two years of excuses from UCCS students and employees for being late.  Some delays will continue as details are completed, particularly on Union. (More)

9/11, seven years later. The anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington were remembered on campus this week with a flag display near the Kraemer Family Library, tolling bells from El Pomar Center and half-staff flags. Tom Pyszczynski, professor, Psychology, explained emotions of fear and death and how we manage terror to a reporter from Public Radio International.  Hear the interview at http://www.theworld.org/audio/0911086.mp3.

Olympian to share experience, health and fitness message. The first African-American woman to earn an Olympic gymnastics medal will visit UCCS Sept. 19. Dominque Dawes, a gold medal winner in 1996, will visit with UCCS students and athletes as well as students at Liberty High School. See the complete schedule. (More)

Constitutional fete. Josh Dunn, assistant professor, Political Science, will lead a discussion of how the U.S. Constitution and presidential elections intersect beginning at 3:10 p.m. Sept. 17 in the University Center Theater. The event, part of Constitution Day, will include refreshments. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

First fall forum to feature faculty issues, provost. The first Chancellor’s Office Forum for the fall semester is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sept. 23 in the University Center Theater. (More)

On the cutting edge. Baby Boomers will benefit from the research being done today to improve services for aging Americans and to change the image of “Uncle Joe in his rocker,” Sara Qualls, Kramer Family Professor of Aging, told members of the University Club this week. See her presentation. (More)

Eggs, kudos combined. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak lauded the efforts of university staff for recruiting students and building a welcoming community during annual Fall Staff Breakfast festivities Wednesday. (More)

Drab walls? Not anymore. UCCS,  past and present, will soon be displayed to educate, enlighten and inspire visitors to Main Hall’s fourth floor. The campus is invited to celebrate the unveiling of 22 black and white photographs, and those who made the project possible, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on -- where else -- the fourth floor of Main Hall. An RSVP is requested to exec1@uccs.edu
