UCCS taps sociology professor to lead diversity efforts

Kee Warner, interim associate vice chancellor for diversity, will fill the post permanently beginning July 1, Peg Bacon, interim provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, announced Thursday.

Warner, who served as interim associate vice chancellor for the past year and previously served as director of diversity strategic planning , was selected following a regional search. Warner was the search committee’s unanimous choice, Robert Wonnett, vice chancellor, Student Success, and committee chair, said.

“Kee Warner has done an outstanding job of leading our diversity strategic planning efforts,” Bacon said. “I am pleased that he will be leading us forward as we implement the plan.”
Warner joined UCCS in 1993 as an assistant professor of sociology. In 2000, was promoted to associate professor, was a Fulbright Fellow in Chile in 2001 and later served as chair of the Sociology Department. He was promoted to professor in 2006.

Prior to joining UCCS, he served as a neighborhood planner and community organizer in Denver.

Warner holds a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College, Haverford, Penn., a master’s degree in planning and community development from the University of Colorado Denver, and both master’s and doctoral degrees in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
