Emmy Award winner shares secrets of success with UCCS.  Blue jean-covered legs crossed and sipping from a Starbucks cup, “West Wing” star and Broadway actress Allison Janney portrayed herself during an impromptu visit to the University Center Theater Monday. (More)

One, two, three strikes you’re out . . . but there’s barbecue. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak cordially invites faculty, staff and their families to attend the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Barbecue on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Four Diamonds Sports Complex. The barbecue will be in conjunction with two UCCS softball games. Both games will be played against the Colorado School of Mines. The first game will begin at 4 p.m. and the second will begin at 6 p.m. To RSVP, e-mail exec1@uccs.edu.

Student Response Team takes action. College can be stressful and sometimes the demands can be downright overwhelming. The recently formed UCCS Student Response Team aims to help students manage those stressful and overwhelming times. (More)

Soldier-to-teacher program allows public service careers to continue. Two local school districts will hire current military members and veterans up to two years in advance to teach elementary and secondary school classes, according to a new agreement between the districts and the Mountain West Troops to Teachers program based in the College of Education at UCCS. College of Business establishes alumni office. In a city of 407,000, a group of 3,000 is large enough to have an economic impact. At least, that’s the plan of Venkat Reddy, dean, College of Business. (More)

UCCS to award scholarship in instructor’s honor. The UCCS College of Engineering and Applied Science will award the first Greg Sajdak Scholarship in ceremonies scheduled for 10 a.m. April 18. (More)

April Chancellor’s Forum date set. The April Chancellor’s Forum is now scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 29 in the UC Theater. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will provide an update on the university budget and actions by the Colorado General Assembly.

Changes

  • Kathleen Beatty, dean, School of Public Affairs, recently announced plans to resign as dean this summer. Search plans for a replacement have not been announced.

Kudos

  • Joshua Dunn, assistant professor, Political Science, recently published “Complex Justice: The Case of Missouri v. Jenkins.” The book’s publisher is the University of North Carolina Press. (More)
  • Alexander Soifer, professor, Interdepartmental Studies, will soon publish an almost 1,000 page book on math and its history with an emphasis on mathematicians in Nazi Germany and in Europe after World War II. The book’s publisher is SPRINGER.
