Wilma Jean Johnson

Wilma Jean Johnson died February 27, 2008.

Born March 16, 1935, in Ewing, NE. Growing up she was known by the nickname “Snooks.” She attended Wheeler County High School graduating in 1952 as valedictorian. Wilma married Byron Johnson on October 23, 1955 in Clearwater, NE. She worked as a legal secretary prior to moving to Colorado Springs and in 1965. She earned associates degree at the El Paso County Community College. Wilma’s happiest days were working at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs from 1979 to 1994 in the Chemistry and Biology Departments, where she also continued to take classes. She was a preceded in death by her parents Laura Bauwens and William Tagel. Surviving are her two children Jed Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO and Laurie Johnson of Denver, CO, her sisters, Lorene Droescher Grimm of Norfolk, NE, Delores Haws of Montrose, CO and Donna Sala of Lincoln, NE, and her many nieces and nephews.

The memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm,Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Unity Church in the Rockies, Colorado Springs, CO with the Reverend Lawrence Palmer, officiating.

In lieu of flowers a fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank-Wilma Jean Johnson Memorial.
