Green is focus for March forum. While UCCS has recycled more than 40,000 pounds of waste and faculty, staff, and students should feel good about the university’s first-year recycling efforts, there’s more to being green than putting trash in the correct bin. (More)

Chancellor leads compensation discussion. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak led faculty and professional exempt staff members in a discussion this week of compensation for 2008-2009. Faculty were encouraged to work with the benefits committee of Faculty Assembly and staff members with officers of the Professional Exempt Staff Association.

CU President Bruce Benson to begin Monday. Bruce Benson will assume the University of Colorado presidency on Monday, March 10, launching a new era of initiatives aimed at raising the university’s profile as a major research institution and economic driver while lobbying for greater state funding for higher education in Colorado. Brown bids adieu. University of Colorado President Hank Brown today stepped down from the post he has held since April 2005. He was CU’s 21st president. “I’m enormously grateful for the opportunity the Board of Regents gave me to lead this wonderful institution,” Brown said. “It’s been a privilege to be part of something that has meant so much in my life and the lives of tens of thousands of Coloradans.”  (More)

UCCS to host regional Science Olympiad competition. More than 1,000 future scientists will visit the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Saturday as part of the Southern Colorado Regional Science Olympiad Tournament. (More) The schedule of events and the location is also available. (More)

Provost candidate to visit. Ginger Phillips MacDonald, associate vice chancellor for organizational planning, University of Washington, Tacoma, will visit campus March 17 and 18. She is a candidate for the position of provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs.  (More)

Library dean candidate to visit.  Teri Switzer, interim university librarian/director, Auraria Library, CU Denver will provide a campus presentation at 10:15 a.m. Monday in the University Center theater. She is a candidate for the position of Kraemer Family Library dean. (More)

Nursing dean candidate to visit. Jacqueline Magdalena Hooper, principal, Learning Solutions, Pueblo, and former vice president for academic affairs at Bastyr University, Kenmore, Wash., will provide a campus presentation at 1:45 p.m. Monday in University Hall 109. She is a candidate for the position of Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences dean. (More)

Women celebrated. UCCS will participate in International Women’s Day tomorrow with remarks by prominent Colorado Springs women, poetry readings and a mini concert. The celebration will begin at noon in the Gallery of Contemporary Art and will feature Cindy Aubrey, news director, KOAA, Mary Lou Makepeace, former Colorado Springs mayor, as well as Aditi Mitra, assistant professor, Sociology, Mary Jane Sullivan, instructor, Philosophy, Curtis Smith, senior instructor, Visual and Performing Arts, and Kirsten Bartholomew, assistant professor, English. RSVPs are requested to Daphne Medina, dmedina@uccs.edu. The event is sponsored by the Department of Women’s and Ethnic Studies.
