Regents select president finalist. Bruce Benson, finalist, CU President, will visit campus beginning at noon Tuesday in UC 303 as part of an open forum. Beverages and desserts will be provided. A ‘brown bag’ lunch is recommended. (More)

Katrina course generates campus, community, global interest. Look around campus and you’ll notice faculty-to-student ratios in the classrooms are generally low. But one class offered this spring, Katrina: The Nation at a Crossroads, turns that ratio on its ear. (More)

“Lost Manuscript” author to highlight UCCS Black History Month celebration. The historian who unearthed a long-lost Carter G. Woodson manuscript will speak publicly about its contents for the first time Thursday, Feb. 7, at a free University of Colorado at Colorado Springs community forum. (More)

Call it reputation building. Bob Sevier, executive vice president, Stamats, Inc., encouraged a standing-room only crowd at the University Center this week to set aside words such as “branding” and “marketing” and to substitute “reputation building” for a project to move UCCS forward in its relationships with potential students, donors and the greater Colorado Springs community. Chancellor to highlight strategic direction, technology issues. Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will host an all-campus forum beginning at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the University Center Theater. Planned topics include an update on strategic planning priority-setting sessions and Information Technology Department efforts to secure private information. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Focus the Nation. It was a group of eight-year-olds from Da Vinci Academy who stole the show at a “Focus the Nation Teach-In” event this week on campus. The youngsters performed “The Lorax” as part of environmental awareness efforts. (Images)

Who’s New

Bob Boettner, assistant director of development, Athletics. A former director of the College Swimmng Coaches Association of America, sports agent and both professor at coach at Clemson University, Boettner will be responsible for fundraising initiatives to support Athletic Department goals. His appointment was announced by Maurin Anderson, vice president, CU Foundation.
